The “Maryland Love Project” is an online portal recently announced by Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley as an initiative to find out what the residents of Maryland love about the state. The “Maryland Love Project” is a convenient and easy to maneuver online portal where Maryland residents can share anecdotes about their favorite things about the state of Maryland.
The project came to fruition as a result of the partnership between the State of Maryland, the Baltimore Love Project, the Digital Harbor Foundation’s STEM Engine program and the Maryland State Arts Council. Ultimately, the project’s goal is designed to, “showcase all of the reasons why people love Maryland while shining a light on the important role that the arts and technology play in our communities,” Mayor O’Malley stated in a recent announcement.
The portal, love.Maryland.gov, was created by two mentors and four middle- and high school students from the STEM Engine project during a seven-hour brainstorming session at Baltimore’s Digital Harbor Foundation Tech Center.
Residents and visitors alike can utilize the online portal in order to share their love for Maryland. Admiration can be shared in any form including a photograph, poem, paragraph, tweet or other social media means, as well as by tweeting it with the hashtag #MDLove and sharing it with fellow residents. Whether you love the Orioles, Old Bay seasoning, crabs or anything else that encompasses Maryland, “Maryland Love Project” is the place to go and share that admiration.
Additionally, plans for a Maryland mural are currently underway. An artist from the Baltimore Love Project will begin to analyze submissions to the Maryland Love Project website and from there, create a mural based on the submissions that will be displayed in Baltimore City this coming summer.
