Silver Spring Found to be Densely Populated

Planning and urbanism blogger, Michael Rodriguez, recently analyzed Census data in order to determine if the area of Silver Spring is in fact an urban area or a suburban area. After much debate and discussion, figures from Rodriguez’s analysis may point to an urban label. According to the data gathered by the analysis, the downtown area of Silver Spring is comparable to Washington, D.C.’s most densely populated areas. In this usage, the word dense pertains to the number of people residing in a certain area, according to silverspring.patch.com.

The west area of the East West Highway located east of 16th Street was found to be one of the highest density locales in Silver Spring. The area surrounds the local Metro station. Data gathered by Rodriguez found that the region contains over 34,816 people per square mile. This figure indicates a much higher rate of current individuals residing in the area when compared to every other area in the Montgomery County.

Rodriguez found the second-highest densely populated location in the Silver Spring area to be the land located west of the Metro station. The area boasted over 24,183 people per square mile. When compared to neighborhoods in the Washington, D.C. area, Silver Spring came out on top in terms of density. Data found that Washington D.C. neighborhoods like Adams Morgan, Shaw, Petworth, Columbia Heights and northern Logan Circle, all had a lower density of people residing in the area, according to silverspring.patch.com.
