Glen Mill Knolls in Potomac, Maryland

Glen Mill Knolls - Potomac, MD

Montgomery County, Maryland consists of the outer portions of the cities of Gaithersburg, Rockville and Potomac. The community lies parallel to the river of the same name. Land that once saw the war-like Native Americans of the same name raid other villages of Native Americans now encompasses golf courses, riding clubs and stunning estates. Potomac even looks stunning dressed in snow. It is a community of contrasts. Green trees shade waters of the same hue, while red brick arched bridges lead to tree-lined roads above rocky bluffs.

There are eight parks in Potomac in addition to three major shopping malls. Tourist attractions in nearby Washington, D. C. are a serious draw for residents as well as tourists. The food in these communities is beyond compare and many are four and five star Michelin-rated restaurants. Gaithersburg and Rockville, MD contain many animal breeders so lovers of dog breeds will find their favorite there.

Lay of the Land

Potomac is largely residential. There are a couple Starbucks here and there, a McDonalds, FedEx and UPS, Dominos and the like; but by and large, Potomac is residential. It lies a few miles northwest of Washington, D. C. and is across the river from “Virginia horse country”. On a scale of one to ten with ten being the safest, Potomac rates an 8.

Potomac Real Estate

It is possible to find foreclosures here, but not many. The housing market in this county has been rising for the past three years. With that in mind, there are many styles and capacities from which to choose. For example, it is entirely possible to find a four-bedroom 3.5 bath rancher built in the 70s in Potomac. Be prepared to pay a couple million for the 14 acres it sits on.

Some homes rest on ½ acre, while others sit on from 2 to 15 acres. The houses are usually clad in brick or stone. Some have gables while others are a masterpiece of balance with oriels and paladian windows across the front of the house. Prices range from 400,000 for a 3 bed 3 bath home to 1.5 million for 7,000 square feet.

Perhaps Tara would appeal to buyers, with its columns across the front of the house and 7,000 square feet with 3,000 more in the basement. 1.9 million will buy the purchaser a little less than an acre, but with a media room and outdoor entertainment area.
