The residents are a mix of recent transplants and families who have lived there since the founding of its neighborhood association in 1938. The neighborhood prides itself on a commitment to community and the environment, and to honoring its history while embracing the future.

Neighborhood Association

Luxmanor’s neighborhood association is active and engaged, representing resident interests in a variety of arenas. Residents stay informed through a newspaper and a private message board. The association monitors proposed development in the area, as well as infrastructure improvements and any other actions affecting the neighborhood. They also sponsor “Neighbor to Neighbor” social events and an annual Garden Tour.

While DC offers many options for food and entertainment, Montgomery County is a vibrant and diverse area with plenty of local attractions. The DC area attracts a wide variety of residents from all over the world, and this diversity if reflected in both the restaurant and shopping options in the area.

Ethnic supermarkets and small eateries from a variety of cuisines are tucked between national chains and local favorites. There are several golf courses in the immediate Rockville area, and the Congressional Country Club, located in nearby Bethesda, hosts the AT&T National Golf Tournament.

A variety of parks are scattered throughout the county, offering softball diamonds, tennis courts, and basketball courts. Rock Creek Regional Park which spans 1800 acres and contains 13 miles of hiking trails, Lake Needlewood and Lake Frank for fishing and boating, and an archery range.

Proximity to Washington, DC

Washington, DC is just a short drive or subway ride away. The DC Metro Red Line has a stop just outside of the neighborhood. DC offers a plethora of entertainment, educational, and dining options. The Smithsonian Institution has nineteen museums with free admission, including the Museum of Natural History and the National Air and Space Museum.

Restaurants in DC and the surrounding areas are as varied as the many people who call it home, and one can find multiple representations of cuisine from almost anywhere in the world and at a variety of price points. The theater scene in DC is vibrant and varied, ranging from Broadway shows at the Kennedy Center to premier original works at the Arena Stage, and dozens of small companies pushing the boundaries of the art form.

In music, the Verizon Center is a regular stop for the biggest world tours, while the 9:30 Club offers a more intimate venue for both the hottest new acts and classic artists of yesterday.
